If you’re reading this blog, you probably have a favorite hand-stitching technique. Redwork? Cross-stitch? Needlepoint? Blackwork? My favorite is sashiko.
For over twenty years I have enjoyed stitching traditional Japanese sashiko samplers. I stitched the designs, pre-printed on indigo blue fabric, with white thread. The result was a simple, elegant piece of needlework.
When I began stitching my own designs, I was inspired by the American Southwest – the natural environment and the many cultures that live in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah.
